Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 cups whole milk (or plant-based milk)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine cocoa powder, sugar, and flour. Whisk until fully blended and smooth.
- Add milk: Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cook the gravy: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. As it heats up, the mixture will begin to thicken.
- Add butter: Once the gravy has reached your desired thickness, remove from heat and stir in the butter until melted and smooth.
- Serve: Ladle the hot chocolate gravy over warm biscuits, pancakes, waffles, or your favorite dessert.
Notes
- f you prefer a thicker gravy, add a bit more flour. For a thinner sauce, add extra milk.
- For a vegan version, substitute plant-based milk and vegan butter.
- To make this gluten-free, swap the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
- You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or a dash of bourbon for extra flavor.
